Dear Wayne and Janice,
It has been a year ago this Saturday that we came to your home and picked out Maddie to come live with us. It was a very cold December 12th, our anniversary, and we had just euthanized our beloved Miniature Schnauzer, Mitzi, the day before. We were extremely upset with the holidays coming and our precious companion no longer with us so it was a joy to watch that little piece of fur bounce around your enclosed area and then leave with us as our newest family member.
The fact that she adapted quite readily and quickly learned her new name, Maddie, was a big plus. She bonded just as rapidly by conning her daddy into hand feeding her her dog food and winning his heart just as easily. For me, her new mom, she became a constant companion throughout a very long winter. We watchted our children and grandchildren fall in love with her at first site with memories of a much loved Airedale lingering in their heads.
Maddie, a.k.a "Annie" when she lived with you, is a very bright little girl who, as you can see, wears a collar for an invisible fence. It didn't take but a day or so for her to realize that flags meant trouble for her. I truly believe that she could go outside now without that collar, but we're not about to tempt fate with all the "dog traffic" passing by our busy street nor do we want to lose her to a vehicle going much too fast.
We have found her to be a stubborn yet loving dog. [She might as well be German for all her stubborness!] She is an exceptional watchdog, and since she now sleeps with us, we are aware of every squeak she hears throughout the night. Like all of our dogs, she has a built in clock that lets her know when her daddy should be coming home, and will sit at the door leading to the garage awaiting his arrival.
She is extremely active with springs in her legs that have at times gotten her one of her favorite things off the kitchen island, that being a banana! This summer and fall she would play outside with Phil throwing her a frisbee for as long as his arm would hold up. Since we live on a pond, she has begun "bird watching" the ducks and geese that inhabit the water though she has not taken to chasing them when they appear on the lawn. Rabbits, however, are another matter.
She is groomed every fifth week, and has become the delight of those in the salon since she interacts so well with the other dogs there, some of which are dogs seeking new homes. [Her groomer takes in foster dogs, and has them with her in her shop.] Maddie loves to go to be groomed, as you might imagine, where she's welcome to play with all these other dogs. This is something new to us as our previous dogs did not enjoy being groomed. Maddie however, likes water, and on occassion will shower with one of us. Sorry, no pictures of that. If she can sneak into the shower, she'll beat you in!]
It didn't take long before we had others stop to ask us if we had an Airedale puppy, and, of course, comment on how cute she is. She has made many friends, human as well as canine, in the course of our walks. One of her favorite is Lili, another Welshie that is her age. [In fact, the couple who live about a block from us, tried to purchase a Welshie from you a few months before we got Maddie, but you had no puppies available at the time so they drove to Minnesota, and got Lili from a breeder there.] When Cindy brings Lili to the door and Maddie comes out to play, it's a sight to behold! They race around the yard until you'd think they'd drop....until the next time they get together. It's so unusual to see two Welshies together that even on pictures taken of the two of them, people will ask how we did that...get a double exposure of Maddie!
Just looked over your website and see that you have a few Welsh Terrier puppies available. There have been times we have wished we had two just so she'd have another dog to not only keep her company but for each to entertain the other. I was hoping she'd appear in the testimonials as Janice had asked if we'd permit the use of pictures we sent up this fall. The pictures I'm attaching this time are from October when she was recently groomed. I still want to e-mail you the picture of her sitting on Phil's shoulder as a puppy. It's adorable. Looking back at the photos I sent you on September 17th, I see there are a few taken before "her big girl haircut." Yes, you can use her pictures on your testimonial page. She'd like that.
Again, can't begin to tell you how she's made two people entering their golden years young at heart. [It's not a matter of choice sometimes with her unlimited energy urging us onward!] We love her to pieces, but who wouldn't love such an adorable "child?" Maddie again sends her love to her mom and dad, stepbrothers, stepsisters, and all your wonderful dogs she met while living with you.
Sincerely,
Jayne and Phil
